Location:

The Savuti has developed a reputation over the years as a prime area to view predators in Botswana, especially lion and spotted hyena. The Savuti lies within the Chobe National Park and boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent.

The Savuti Channel itself was a river and in 1982, it abruptly stopped flowing. The event was so unusual, it was extensively covered by various wildlife documentaries. Then, in 2010, the Savuti starting flowing again!

In 2009 the Botswana Government decided to privatize numerous “public campsites” and Ren and Connie Mbulawa were of the first Botswana citizens to own such a campsite.

Game Viewing / Activities:

The game viewing offered by Savute is an experience not to be missed, especially if you are visiting in the summer months, after November’s first rains when thousands of animals are drawn to the area. Savute’s highlights are its concentrations of lion and hyena, as well as its leopard, cheetah, black-backed jackal and the many lone elephant bulls, usually seen frequenting their favorite ‘watering holes’!

The summer zebra migrations, an awe-inspiring spectacle of up to 25,000 animals trooping through Savute in search of the rain-ripe grasslands to the south, is determined by the rains but usually occurs between November - December and again between February - April when the zebras migrate back north to the Linyanti. In short - Tracking Savute’s game on morning and afternoon game drives by open 4x4 safari vehicle, excellent birding, exploring the sweeping grasslands of the dry Savute Marsh, visits to the Gubatsa Hills to view the ancient San rock paintings.
