Nthambo Tree  Camp (Klaserie Game Reserve) South Africa

nThambo is an eco-friendly camp where guests are afforded the opportunity of staying in wooden treehouses on stilts. Located in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and Timbavati; nThambo offers a unique safari experience. Nearby neighbour and sister camp to Africa on Foot, nThambo Tree Camp shares the same pristine traverse in the privacy of the Klaserie Reserve.

The Klaserie is one of the largest privately owned Nature Reserves in South Africa (approximately 55,000 hectares) and forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park (approximately 2 million hectares). It is unfenced, which both allows for all migratory species to roam freely and increases the area that territorial species can establish themselves, enabling genetic drift. From a conservation standpoint, this provides a benefit for the animals and the people visiting them.

Accommodations:

nThambo Tree Camp has only 5 chalets that sleep 2 people each, which creates an intimate and personal safari experience. The accommodation is unique with bedrooms at eye-level with the trees, offering a different perspective from the private balconies.

Facilities:

The nThambo Tree Camp facilities include a main area, which houses a comfortable lounge and bar under thatch. The dining room, which has a large table and a wine rack, and is located next to the open-air boma fireplace, perfect for evening drinks around the fire. In addition guests will experience a traditional South African braaivleis cooked over the open fire. To truly immerse yourself in the rustic bush experience, the main area is lit with lanterns while plug points in the chalets can be used to charge your camera batteries. There is also wifi available in the lounge and bar area. During the hot summer months guests can relax around the splash pool - don't be surprised if there is a herd of elephants approaching to drink the water!

Game Viewing & Activities:

Twice daily we take our guests on a game drive (approximately 3 hours long)  in open safari vehicles that offer unobstructed views in all directions. The first game drive leaves soon after sunrise, with a stop for coffee or tea and a snack in the bush. The second game drive departs in the late afternoon with a stop for sun-downers, where guests can watch the sun set over the African horizon. After the sun sets, we continue with a drive back to the lodge aided by a spotlight for night sightings.

We are blessed with a diverse array of animal species and will lead you on a fascinating tour through the African bush. The animals roam free, and we get to view them in this open habitat. In exceptional circumstances, we will take our vehicles off-road for special sightings, providing our guests with a unique safari experience and allowing them to get tantalizingly close to Africa’s wildlife. Bring your cameras and you will leave Senalala with once-in-a-lifetime photos to supplement unforgettable memories!

Walking Safaris:

Africa on Foot (our sister camp) specialises in walking safaris in the big five Klaserie Private Nature Reserve; a wildlife rich region in the heart of the Greater Kruger. The Klaserie shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park which means predators and other wildlife roam freely throughout.

On a walking safari guests will be led by experienced and professional trail guides through a wildlife area rich with game. In addition to walking safaris, game drives are offered, which allows guests to participate in a full spectrum of safari activities. The morning starts with a 2 - 3 hour walk, but if the conditions aren't favourable, the walk is replaced with a game drive. There's always a sundowner stop with evening game drives, and there are plenty of options for special occasions!

Africa on Foot Camp has 5 chalets ensuring an intimate and personal safari experience. For the more adventurous there is a treehouse which can be booked at no extra cost. On balmy summer days guests can relax at their choice of 2 splash pools and enjoy a traditional South African barbecue (braai) around the camp fire area in the boma.
